The Department of Neurosurgery provides neurosurgical care and procedures like microscopic brain and spine, neuroendoscope, stereotaxy, navigation, pediatric and endovascular neurosurgery. Supervises and train postgraduate residents aiming for neurosurgery as their specialty. Teach 4th and 5th year medical students including interns as part of their curriculum in medicine. Conduct scientific researches in collaboration with other departments inside and outside the hospital and the Kingdom. Provides annual continuing medical education activities like conferences to provide channel of updates in neuroscience and most importantly neurosurgical care and management.
Consultant neurosurgeons are the primary provider of a comprehensive neurosurgical care in the outpatient, emergency, wards and operating theatre. Consultant provides diagnosis, pre – and post-operative care of major and minor operative procedures and follow ups. Consultants coordinate with other consultants, specialists and residents in the department regarding management of patients under their respective care. They consult other specialties within or outside the hospital if needed for the treatment and management of their patient.
The Department of Neurosurgery cooperates and coordinates with other related disciplines in the hospital through consultation, referrals, joint meeting with neuroradiologist and neuropathologist, joint clinics with the pediatrics and urology and joint unit such as neuro ICU and neuro radiology.

Hours of Service Provision
Outpatient hour is at 9:00 AM – 12:00 noon and 1:00 – 4:00 PM everyday except Monday. Duty on call as well as emergency service is a 24-hour shift covered by the first on call is usually covered by the junior trainees, second on call is covered by the senior trainees and specialist and the consultant on call.
