The 6th Pledge of Allegiance Creative Literary Award 2020

Believing in the role of creativity in enhancing national identity and belongingness, Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University (IAU) has launched the Creative Literary Award on the 6th Pledge of Allegiance occasion, inviting IAU's students, affiliates, and the community to participate and express their feelings of love, allegiance, and belongingness.

Award Objectives

  1. Highlighting what the pledge of allegiance implies including loyalty, submission, and obedience.
  2. Enhancing IAU's students, affiliates, and the community's interaction with the occasion of the pledge of allegiance.
  3. Perceiving Allah's graces represented in our country's unity, security, and prosperity.
  4. Stimulating creative authors to write and unveil literary talents.
  5. Honoring citizen or resident innovators and recognizing literary creativity.

Award Tracks

Literary Writings can be in one of the following two tracks:

  1. Poetic text track
  2. Prose text track

Stages of the Award

  • Submission will be on 1st November until 7th November 2020.
  • Choosing nominees will start from 8th November until 10th November 2020.
  • Announcing the winners will be on 12th November 2020.

Prizes

For both tracks:
1st Place: 10000 SR
2nd Place: 6000 SR
3rd Place: 4000 SR

Terms & Conditions

  1. The text must be written by the participant and any literary theft in the text will result in rejection.
  2. Participants should not have presented their piece to any other agency.
  3. IAU will not be responsible for any texts proved to be an intellectual property infringement.
  4. Participants must acknowledge that the university will launch advertising campaigns and use winners' texts and names in all available advertising media.
  5. Participations must not include any harmful, transgression, slander, defamation, threats or insults or any other prohibited denotations and IAU has the right to refuse or dismiss the publication of any defiant texts.

Texts' General Terms

  1. Texts shall be written in modern standard Arabic.
  2. The text shall adhere to the main idea and theme.
  3. The text shall be written in Simplified Arabic Font Size 16.
  4. Language and grammar shall be sound and clear of misspellings and typos.

Acceptance Standards for the Poetic Text Track

  1. Should be no less than 15 verses.
  2. The poetic meter should be sound and clear of poetic mistakes.
  3. The title should include various features, the most important features are a reference to the poem's content, conciseness, and connotations.
  4. Words should illustrate the meaning and should be easily pronounced.
  5. Should avoid odd or complicated meanings.
  6. Truthful affection.
  7. A fine beginning and conclusion.
  8. Accuracy of depiction and illustration of meanings.

Acceptance Standards for the Prose Text Track

  1. Should not be less than 500 words, nor more than 1000 words.
  2. The title should be intensive, expressive, and inspiring.
  3. Shall adhere to the literary style.
  4. The text shall include a coherent introduction, body, and conclusion.
  5. The main idea shall be presented, discussed, with the ability to convince its reader.
  6. Commitment to the correctness of presented information by referring to the resources and references.

  1. May I participate in both tracks?
    Yes, you may participate in both tracks.
  2. May I participate with more than one literary text?
    Yes, you may participate with more than one text in the same track.
  3. May I change my submission?
    Upon sending your participation, you may not change it.
  4. May I withdraw from the award after submitting my literary text?
    You may withdraw from the award before the 7th of November 2020.
  5. Is the award for citizens only?
    Both citizens and residents may participate.
