Biology is an important branch and occupies a leading position among other branches of science, as it is concerned with the study of living organisms, their genes, cells, structure, functions, and biological interactions. It includes plants, animals, microorganisms, and their various environments. It is a diverse and viable science that studies biological phenomena and their applications in various fields such as laboratories, industries, agriculture, environment, and biotechnology.
The progress of any nation is measured by the extent of its ability to keep pace with scientific and intellectual advancement, and to accelerate development in all areas of life. From this standpoint, the Department of Biology at the College of Science at Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University strives to provide distinguished, high-quality opportunities to educate in biology and environmental sciences in order to graduate with distinguished, pioneering scientific competencies. That serves the community and is aligned with the requirements and needs of the labor market. It is one of the oldest departments, as it was established in the College of Science in the year 1399–1400 AH, corresponding to 1979–1980 AD. The Department of Biology also awards a Bachelor of Science degree in biology in various tracks and a Bachelor of Science degree in environmental sciences. Furthermore, the department grants a Master of Science degree in biology. The department is distinguished by qualified educational, administrative, and technical staff, and it includes 10 laboratories equipped with the latest devices and technologies that support the provision of distinguished scientific and educational services.
