The ninth development plan of 1430-1435 shows that developing the kind of education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the most important and challenging stage of the plan. The excellence of education is one of the crucial topics that concerns those who are involved in education. The excellence (quality) of education guarantees the production of educational outcomes that would positively share in the development process. The prompt efforts executed by the Ministry of High Education and Institutions of High Education have contributed in the promotion of the quality of education in the realization of advanced positions in a number of international classifications. But in spite of these results and achievements of some high education institutions, efforts are still needed to promote the quality of high education in all the institutions in the Kingdom.
Due to the importance of the higher studies program and its contribution in causing changes in development in scientific research, the University of Dammam had divided its efforts to develop these programs, it laid down the broad lines for the development plan which was approved in the University Council, first session on 24\10\1413 (appendix 1)
The MA program in the Department of Geography started in 1404 H, since then, it was not developed in a way to reflect what distinguishes the Science of Geography as a dynamic biological science and its concerns with the technological changes that are considered important tools for its specialties.
The development of the program will help in achieving the mission of the University of Dammam in saving the Communities of the Eastern Province in particular and other communities in general. This is because the Science of Geography, with its different specializations, is characterized by having the ability to solve many problems in the fields of economy, population and society together with the problems of the physical environment and the different issues of development

Program System
The program is conducted through courses and a thesis.

28 study units + 6 Thesis
Graduation Requirements:
- Passing all subjects with a minimum grade of good (B) an a minimum GPA of very good (3.75).
- Successful defense of the thesis before a panel of referees and the completion of correction (if any) as per the instructions of the panel referees.
