Course Description
Environment Design I will introduce the student to the art and science of architecture, interior design and building technology; just a few of the several professions that fall under the environmental design category. At the heart of this course is the environmental design process: from formulation to built environment. The course progresses from defining the intent of architecture, interior design, and building technology and how they interact. A brief review of the environmental design processes in Saudi Arabia will be examined through examples. This will provide the student with an understanding of the relationships between architecture, interior design and building technology and how critical these relationships are for environmental design. Lectures will cover the history and central ideas of architecture, interior design and building technology. The role of the designer in the problem solving process and the scope of current environmental design practices will round out this course.
