Course Description
This studio is a continuation of the concept development projects, Interior Design Studio 4. It moves on from renovation to innovation with a real-life project that focuses on student design investigations on a physical context in addition to universal design principles. The coursework will revolve around design investigations of retail spaces of increasing scale and complexity articulated by the interactions of individuals and the potential users of the place. This studio introduces a constructionist learning approach based on perceptual-based design standpoint, as students will be trained to conceive indoor settings and related interior design elements according to 10 perceptual paths of design that summarize the diversity of readings that users of any setting whether professionals or non-professionals are likely to recognize from different view-points (PBDM). The course also introduces the critical element of the human being when designing interior spaces. Students will explore the many facets of the human condition (physical, psychological, social & cultural) as applied to the design process while solving small-scale problems.
