Course Description
In recognition of the importance of training and qualification in development of students' skills and capabilities and in line with its vision as well as the Saudi vision 2030, which aims at pioneering the field of administrative and financial education, the College of Business Administration is keen to provide a favorable environment for cooperative training that enables students to apply the various knowledge and skills acquired by them during their study at the College. In seeking to maximize the gains of training, the College aims to achieve leadership in alignment between education outputs and labor market needs. Therefore, a work strategy has been developed for the program to cover the plans and tasks aiming to attract suitable training opportunities for College students through coordination with government institutions and major companies to train students for actual adaptation and integration in their expected work environment after graduation.
Training during the semester also provides a greater opportunity for companies to benefit from the contributions of students and give them a wider field to demonstrate their talents and skills particularly that the work during this period is at its normal levels compared to the summer. Furthermore, training during the semester gives Academic Supervisor better supervision and evaluation capacity.
Objectives of Cooperative Training
• Qualify students academically to meet the requirements of labor market.
• Enable students to practice job duties at Training bodies, and to be introduced to some of the mechanisms used in administrative work: such as policies, rules, procedures, balances,
control and assessment.
• Enable students to develop their skills in direct and written communication and to improve
and refine their skills in dealing with others within an actual work environment.
• Develop the skills of students in the field of research, analysis and finding solutions to practical problems in work environments, particularly in their respective specialization and
work to develop their abilities to link theoretical study and practical application.
• Develop the skills of students in writing administrative reports of all types and objectives.
• Create a greater opportunity for students to obtain a job in their field of specialization at Training bodies.
• Build a useful relationship with Training bodies through communication of academic supervisors with students and trainers at those bodies.
4. Suggested plan:
The below plan is a wide-ranged suggested plan for the co-op students who are majored in Management Information Systems. The plan includes main subject areas that students demonstrate a great amount of knowledge in.
Orientation
▪ General meet-and-greet with the company’s staff and employees.
▪ General introduction about the company scope of operations, activities and departments.
▪ Provide orientation to the trainee as to his/her role, training plan, expected tasks, line of supervision, etc.
Databases
▪ Actively analyze the organization requirements and define the technical possibilities and constrains.
▪ Establish a conceptual design using entity relationship model (ER).
▪ Manage and maintain databases by preforming Structured Query
Language (SQL) commands such as update, select, delete, etc.
▪ Keep and create data documentation.
Programming
▪ Building web pages using Hypertext Markup Language (HTML).
▪ Creating web content that includes displaying text, pictures, forms, etc.
▪ Creating interactive view of web pages using Cascading Style Sheet
(CSS) and Java Script.
▪ Preforming data analysis across the organization Business intelligent
platforms.
▪ The ability to use and write Python codes to interact and visualize data.
MIS Project Management
▪ Working as an effective member of a project team.
▪ Knowledge in creating project plan and scheduling activities.
▪ Keep track of the project tasks, resources, timeline using Microsoft
Project.
Knowledge Management
▪ Observe, assess and analyze the knowledge management situation in the organization.
▪ Suggest initiatives to create a culture which support knowledge management process.
Information System Security
▪ Introduction to the used corporate security systems.
▪ Suggest policies and procedures to ensure the organization security.
▪ Effectively Participate in spreading security awareness among non IT employees.
Corporate Abilities and Skills.
▪ Introduction of basic corporate code of conduct in terms of attendance, accountability, line of authority, etc.
▪ Knowledge into Human Resources functions and practices.
▪ Application of communication skills though assignment of
departmental presentations and group discussions.
▪ Offer learning courses, seminars or workshops.
