Course Main Objective
This course aims to make students acquire ability to gain knowledge of the components of integrated systems in libraries and how far they develop and legislate for process of preparing computerized catalogues for collections, lending control in university libraries, linking the bibliographic databases related to the lending system, computerizing the acquisition process, computerizing purchase procedures, supply orders, claims, return, delivery and computerizing information services system, current awareness service (CAS) and selective dissemination of information (SDI).

- 1.1 Explain the most important automated integrated systems for library and learning resource centers management and their requirements and components.

- 2.1Discuss selection and assessment standards of the adequate system according to different needs of libraries and information center.

- 3.1 Bear collective responsibility and work in group.
Course Content:
- Definition of the automated integrated systems: evolution, importance and advantages.
- Types of automated systems (open and closed access automated systems) sub-systems (acquisition- serials controls- lending- online public access catalogue)- .
- Basic components and requirements of library systems.
- Planning for selecting the automated integrated systems.
- Design and building systems in libraries and information centers.
- Mechanism of online retrieving information from the system, the network and databases (inquiry format- search strategy- user interface).
- Assessment of the automated integrated systems: method of network analysis in library and information center projects.
- Models of the most important and commonly-used integrated systems for library management.
