Corse Description
The Reuse and Adaptability course focuses on the transformation of traditional historic buildings into functioning viable structures by changing their original function or purpose, while still maintaining the beauty of the traditional building. This course raises the students’ awareness of the importance of the conservation of the built heritage in the Kingdom and how these structures can be protected and conserved via different methods, tools and regulations. Gentrification and changing the function of a traditional structure while generating income will be evaluated and studied in order to make this option of preserving historic buildings not only economically feasible but a viable option while preserving the Kingdom’s traditional structures. The classification and types of transformations that are being practiced in different parts of the world, both in industrialized and non-industrialized cities will be covered. Site visits to historic buildings as well as actual research on older traditional buildings will give students practical experience in this field of adaptive reuse.
