Course Description
This course discusses the mutual interaction between humans and the built environment. Where influences of interior spaces on occupants can be categorized into physical, functional, psychological, social, and cultural comfort dimensions in human Quality of Life (QoL). For an interior space to fulfill human needs and respect the different QoL dimensions then appropriate human factors should be considered. This course will focus on human factors as related to objective measurements and human dimensions such as proxemics, anthropometrics, ergonomics, and universal design. As well as, concepts and theories of human perception, cognition, and behavior will be studied. It also emphasizes the relationship between cultural values and the perception of the built environment and the way the latter impacts on design. Furthermore, issues of design for people with special needs, and environmental considerations will be discussed. Group discussions, research, field assessments will be included and encouraged throughout the course.
