Course Description
The role that interior finishes play in the quality of any interior design project cannot be underestimated. There is such a wide range of finishing materials available in the marketplace that making the appropriate choice is a challenge. Thru this course the students will learn how to combine their critical thinking skills with their interior architecture background in order to properly select the correct finish for each specific design need. This course will cover the technical knowledge necessary for the selection of different finishing and furnishings materials, their application, specification and performance and also include the code requirements for finishing materials in both commercial and residential applications. The psychological effects of different types of finishing materials used in interior design will be emphasized, as well as different considerations related to human factors, safety, security and durability. The characteristics of materials and finishes will be examined as well. Students will have off campus site visits to various building material shops and construction projects, which are currently at the finishing stage in order for them to gather practical first hand experience.
