Course Description
This course includes the Fundamental concepts of Newtonian mechanics and waves considering, Cartesian, cylindrical and spherical coordinates Systems.
This course covers the following topics:
Motion in Two or Three Dimensions, Newton’s Laws of Motion, Applying Newton’s Laws, Work and Kinetic Energy, Potential Energy and Energy Conservation, Momentum, Impulse, and Collisions, Rotation of Rigid Bodies, Dynamics of Rotational Motion, Equilibrium and Elasticity, Fluid Mechanics, Gravitation, Periodic Motion, Mechanical Waves, Sound and Hearing.
The examples and problems selected for this course give students the necessary knowledge and skills to describe the basic concepts based on a small number of fundamental physics and mathematics principles.
Course Objectives & Outcomes
This course aims to give adequate background at the university level for the basics of classical mechanics that permit the student to apply these concepts for future courses and mechanics in everyday life. Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to
- find the motion equations for mechanical systems in inertial reference in one dimension to three dimensions in the Cartesian and polar coordinates system
- find the equations of motion and solved using integrals and differentiation in inertial and non-inertial references
- recognize the fundamental relationship between force and the work and its impact on the conservation of mechanical energy.
- solve the mobile movement using the conservation laws of kinetic energy and moment as an alternative to the previous methods
- recognize the damped and forced oscillatory motions, resonance effect and its application in life.
- recognize theoretical and practical concepts that will be implemented to the future courses and applied in life and in technical equipment.
