Course Descrpition
Basic concepts and definitions, properties of pure substances, system and control volume, working fluid, processes and cycles, work, heat and energy, ideal gases, state equation, pure substance and phase changes and thermal equilibrium will be covered in this course. This class will also include the First Law of Thermodynamics, internal energy and enthalpy, the First Law of Thermodynamics for closed and open systems, principles of heat transfer, conduction, convection and radiation, steady state and transient conductive heat transfer with convection and radiation as applied to building materials and geometries, heating and cooling load analysis including building shapes, construction type, infiltration, occupancy and ventilation rates.
