Twenty-six students from the University of Dammam volunteered their time by helping serve the Hajj pilgrims.  These students worked with a medical crew of volunteers in order to provide health services to pilgrims, under the auspices of the Saudi Red Crescent Authority and were part of a larger group of 500 volunteers from across the Kingdom.

UoD’s Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Ali Tared Al Dossari stated that, “The University was honored to have had a group of their medical students from the Colleges of Medicine and Applied Medical Sciences provide medical assistance and services to pilgrims.  Their service has made a difference for not only the people they helped, but has also had an impact on the Saudi Red Crescent Authority’s impression of UoD and its caliber of students based on their abilities and dedication in serving the pilgrims.” Dr. Al Dossari relayed that in anticipation of the Hajj, the Deanship of Student Affairs in coordination with King Fahd University Hospital offered vital medical related courses at the hospital, which the student volunteers attended.

Dr. Al Dossari also noted that, “The student volunteers were divided into medical, supply and statistic related groups and were sent to various ambulatory sites such as:  Mina, Arafat, Muzdalifah and the Masjid al Haram by the Red Crescent’s administration in Makkah.   Medical emergencies were immediately attended to by the volunteers under the supervision of the Saudi Red Crescent’s medical crews and the volunteers also supplied medical centers with necessary medical instruments and equipment.”
