The University of Dammam granted Abass Ali Al Abdulsalam a Master of Science in Neurological Physical Therapy and he is considered the first student to receive this specialization degree in physical therapy from a Saudi University.

The master’s thesis defense was held in the conference hall in UoD and titled “The Impact of Body Mass on the Postural Balance of Male Adults”. It was attended by faculty members, a number of specialists and Abass Ali Al Abdulsalam’s family members. The thesis was supervised by Prof. Fuad A. Abdulla, Doctor of Philosophy in Neuroscience Physical Therapy in the College of Applied Medical Sciences in UoD. The committee consisted of Dr. Fahad Al-Khamee, Dean of the Scientific Research in UoD and Head of the Neurosurgery Department in KFUH attended as an external judge and examiner and Dr. Qassim Al-Muaidi the President of the Saudi Federation for Sports Medicine and Vice Dean of the College of Applied Medical Sciences in the University of Dammam as an internal judge and Examiner.

Al Abdulsalam explained that during studying published researches he discovered that there is large controversy between the effects of obesity on the level of postural balance. Nevertheless, Al Abdulsalam’s research proved that the postural balance for obese people was much worse than those who don’t suffer from obesity. As well as that, the deep feeling of the foot was observed to be lower than normal therefore, obesity leads to postural imbalance.
