The Department of English Language presented its curriculum activity for the 2015-2016 CE/1436-1437 AH academic year on Tuesday December 8, 2015 CE/26 Safar 1437 AH.  Dr. Amirah Ahmed Al-Jafary, the Dean of the College of Arts and the Vice Dean, Dr. Eman Mohammed Al-Medarea attended this event.  The theme for this event was women during the Victorian Era.  Students researched the role of women during this time and innovatively linked their research to novels of the time that are a part of the department’s literature curriculum.  Four main topics were addressed in this program: Queen Victoria, women’s role in Victorian society, women’s fashion during the Victorian Era and the most important writers of this period. Ms. Mona Al Rawajeh, Ms. Mona Al Bassam, Ms. May Al Bolushi and Ms. Sama Fragli supervised this event. 

The Department of English Language has developed a successful peer tutoring program where exemplary students from the junior and senior classes tutor preparatory year students in subjects such as: General English, Reading and Writing.  This program has proved invaluable in not only elevating the incoming student’s level of education but in also enhancing the tutors’ teaching skills. 

Dr. Nissreen Nawab, Dr. Rihab Farooq and Ms. Sara Al Mossa of the Department of English Language organized a student competition for fifth level students in Morphology.  The competitors were divided into two teams: the Red team and the Blue team along with a committee of student judges.  Dr. Al-Jafary, Dr. Al-Medarea, Dr. Amal Al Saikhan, the Department’s head and a number of faculty members and students attended this competition.
