The Human Rights Commission in the Eastern Province held an initiative entitled “A Day for Human Rights Commission” at Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University through establishing an awareness booth in the Supportive Deanships Building today, Thursday, October 26, 2023. The event was attended by the Director of the Human Rights Commission in the Eastern Province, Ms. Nawal Al Bawardi, and the Director of the Public Relations and Media, Dr. Tufail Al-Yousef.
Ms. Al Bawardi stated that Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University is considered one of the success partners of the initiative as through this cooperation, an awareness booth for the Human Rights Commission was activated to introduce the goals and tasks carried out by the commission, which confirms our keenness to deliver sound information about the commission’s regulations and legislation to the students. The booth introduced the rights guaranteed by the national systems and the international agreements to which the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has joined. It also introduces the efforts undertaken by the commission to raise awareness about these rights, and the services it provides to the beneficiaries. In addition, it presents information about the channels of communication, and it provides consultations from specialists who also offer some souvenirs. Ms. Al Bawardi added the commission aims to protect and promote human rights, in accordance with the Islamic Sharia. She said that the commission is the governmental body competent to express opinion and advice regarding human rights issues, it is responsible to ensure that relevant government agencies implement all the laws and regulations regarding human rights, which will develop awareness and preserve rights.
For his part, Dr. Tufail Al-Yousef welcomed the Commission team, appreciating their choice of Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University to introduce this initiative, which comes based on the university’s cooperation with various sectors in light of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 and its goals that emphasizes the university’s support to the Human Rights Commission for its pivotal role in promoting and protecting human rights in the Kingdom. This comes to deliver the desired message of introducing the commission and all the aspects that must be realized by the individual and the society at all levels and systems, in order to know their rights and to work according to it. This also makes us realize the importance of the commission and therefore cooperate with them to deliver their message and to emphasize and enhance their role.
Moreover, this shows the keenness of His Excellency the University President, Prof. Abdullah Al-Rubaish, to activate such initiatives, as it comes within the university’s interest in raising the level of awareness about the role of the commission among university employees and for them to understand their rights and duties.
It is worth noting that the initiative of “A Day for Human Rights” was inaugurated by His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Emir of the Eastern Province, and it aims at sustaining and spreading the culture of human rights and reaching the largest possible number of employees in the targeted government sectors.
