Several students from the Deanship of Student Affairs' Health Club at the University of Dammam organized a Chronic Disease Awareness Campaign held in the lobby of the Health Colleges' building on November 23 -24, 2015. The campaign was opened by the Vice Dean of Student Affairs for Services and Quality, Dr. Maher Al Qurashi. The scientific aspects of the campaign were supervised by Dr. Ahmed Al Sunni.

In Dr. Al Qurashi's opening remarks, he mentioned, "The Health Club, like many clubs throughout the University,  consistently demonstrates its commitment to the importance of volunteering, both inside and outside the University.   The volunteers from the Health Club gave visitors to the exhibition the opportunity to check  numerous vital signs, including:  calculation of the Body Mass Index, checking blood pressure and blood sugar levels.  The student volunteers also highlighted numerous chronic diseases and their treatments.”  At the end of his tour of the exhibition booths, Dr. Al Qurashi thanked the head of the club, its members and all the participants.

The College of Applied Medical Sciences represented by the Respiratory Care Department participated as well in the exhibition with their booth focusing on asthma and the dangers of smooking.  Mr. Omar Al Omar, the coordinator of  the Respiratory Care Lab supervised this booth.  Dr. Hajed Al Otaibi, the Chair of the Department of Respiratory Care stated that, "The visitors to their booth were given general respiratory examinations that included lung function and an assessment of their carbon dioxide ratio, which is usually elevated in smokers."
