"Student Fellowship in Skills Development" – A New Capability-Building Program at Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University with Global Partnership.
In a step aimed at fostering student excellence and aligning with future demands, Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University has launched the " Student Fellowship in Skills Development," a comprehensive training program offered through the university’s Continuing Education Center. Designed in partnership with experts from the University of Turku in Finland and involving 30 local specialists, the program represents a qualitative leap in equipping students with the personal and leadership skills needed to succeed in their academic and professional journeys.
Dr. Mohammed S. Alkathiri, the program’s general supervisor, explained that this initiative aligns with the university’s vision to enhance students’ capabilities and empower them to compete globally. He added, "Through this program, we aim to cultivate a generation of innovative leaders equipped with the skills to drive change and navigate the rapidly evolving job market. Our partnership with the University of Turku ensures a world-class capability and skills development experience, further preparing students for the future."
Notably, the program was developed in accordance with the highest global standards, incorporating three key skills-development frameworks: the "Student Leadership Competencies Model," the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL) Model, and the OECD’s Learning Compass 2030. The program focuses on cultivating essential success skills such as leadership, effective communication, critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and adaptability to future changes.
The program features a comprehensive training methodology, including ten carefully designed units covering various skill dimensions—from leadership fundamentals and strategic planning to motivation and influence techniques. It also offers personalized mentoring sessions, with each participant assigned a professional mentor to help develop their individual plan and provide ongoing support throughout the training.
Upon completion, participants present a final project reflecting their journey in the program and highlighting their future contributions in their respective fields. This project aims to strengthen students’ self-awareness and align their acquired skills with their academic and career goals.
The general supervisor confirmed that the program is licensed by the National E-Learning Center, underscoring its adherence to e-content quality standards and alignment with the needs of the digital age. He noted that the program targets university students, as well as high-achieving high school students and graduates with national or regional accomplishments. A specialized committee reviews applications and selects participants based on transparent criteria.
This initiative aligns with Saudi Vision 2030’s goals of human capital development and talent nurturing, as Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University strives to prepare a skilled national workforce capable of effectively contributing to progress and prosperity.
