According to the International Diabetes Federation, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is considered one of the countries that has a high rate of Diabetics patients and due to this reason as well as community responsibility; Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University represented by the Public Relations Unit in the Deanship of University Studies and in cooperation with King Fahd Hospital of the University, the Family and Community Medicine Center of the University and the College of Dentistry organized an intensive Diabetes Awareness campaign. The campaign was held on February 14, 2017 in the Conference Hall in the University City in Al Rakkah from 9 am until 1:30 pm.
The campaign consisted of an awareness exhibition that consisted of various booths such as: vital signs measurement booth, Peripheral Nerves examination booth, Retinal and Dental examination booths. The Diabetes cases that were discovered were transferred to the Family and Community Medicine Center for follow-ups.
During the campaign a lecture was presented by Dr. Dania Al Khafaji an Endocrinology and Diabetes Consultant. The lecture consisted of many segments such as: identifying Diabetes (it's types, symptoms and treatment), also Saudi Statistics, Nutrition, helpful exercises, switching from pills to Insulin syringes, the story behind the Insulin discovery, artificial Pancreases, Stem Cells and finally, different folk remedies.
