The College seek to highlight the cultural and heritage significance of camels in Saudi Arabia.
The College of Arts recently concluded a series of cultural events organized by the Culture and Arts Unit in celebration of Camel Year 2024. These events aimed to highlight the cultural and heritage significance of camels in Saudi Arabia. The unit hosted researcher and historian Qasim bin Khalaf Al-Ruwais, who delivered a lecture titled "Camels in Arab Culture." The lecture addressed several topics, including the status of camels in pre-Islamic and Islamic eras, their role in literary memory, and their evolving image over time. The event received significant engagement from the audience, reflecting a remarkable interest in this cultural heritage.
Additionally, a meeting was organized with students from the College of Architecture and Planning who won the “Model Homeland” competition. They presented their project, “The Dhawd Square,” which embodies the Kingdom's identity and its deep connection with camels. The discussion focused on the project's importance in presenting the camel symbol in a contemporary style that combines interaction and education, thereby reinforcing its position as a prominent feature of national identity.
As part of the Camel Year celebrations, the College of Arts launched the fourth edition of the Poetry Creativity Award under the theme "Camels: An Authentic Cultural Symbol in Saudi Arabia." The award targeted students, faculty members, and administrative and technical staff, encompassing two categories: classical and Nabati poetry. The award process included several stages, starting with submissions, followed by evaluation, and culminating in the announcement of winners. This initiative highlighted poetic creativity and strengthened its connection to the Kingdom’s cultural identity.
These efforts underscore the College of Arts’ commitment to preserving cultural and national values, shedding light on Saudi Arabia’s rich heritage, and presenting it to future generations in a way that blends authenticity with innovation.
