King Fahd Hospital of the University (KFHU) in Al-Khobar, affiliated to IAU, received a certificate of accreditation for pharmacy management and pharmaceutical services from the American Society of Pharmacists. This happened at the headquarter of the hospital administration in the presence of the KFHU Director General Dr. Muhammad Al Shahrani, the Director of Pharmaceutical Services, Dr. Abd alsalam Al Asiri, and the General Supervisor of Quality and Academic Accreditation, Dr. Ahmed Al Kuwaiti as well as staffs and management personnel.
For his part, Dr. Al Shahrani, the KFHU Director General, congratulated the pharmacy and hospital administration on their accomplishment, as it is a new achievement added to a series of other medical achievements and accreditations, appreciating the effort of the department’s management in obtaining such a success. Al Shahrani added that this accreditation comes within a group of a high-quality academic accreditations obtained by the university hospital in the recent years. This gives value and meaning to the application of quality standards in the hospitals, as the university hospital is accredited for the 4th time by the Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCI) and for the 3rd time by the Saudi Central Board for Accreditation of Healthcare Institutions (CBAHI) and for the 3rd time for medical laboratory management from the College of American Pathologist (CAP), and finally the hospital receives a new accreditation, which is an accreditation for pharmacy management and pharmaceutical services, from the American Society of Pharmacists.
Dr. Al Shahrani stated that this last accreditation is very important, and obtaining it requires achieving many standards related to safety, and quality standards in dispensing medications, following them up, and checking their side effects. This accreditation demonstrates the quality of work in the pharmacy department under the management of Dr. Al Asiri and his distinguished group, as it is considered one of the departments that developed greatly in the recent years and became a source of pride for the hospital. He noted that the importance of the accreditation lies in obtaining a certificate of excellence, which means that the department applies highest quality standards. Further, it gives the team that work there the value of working in an internationally accredited department and it indicates that they are well-trained and applying highest standards which reflect the staff of the pharmacy and the quality of services provided.
For his part, Dr. Abd alsalam Al Asiri, the Director of the Pharmacy Department, stated “this achievement is a source of pride for all of us in the hospital and it is considered one of the rarest accreditations at the level of the Kingdom. It is a distinction that pushes us towards increasing our efforts to obtain other certificates and advanced positions in the domain, and finally I highly appreciate what my colleagues in the department have achieved.”
