Course Discription
The course will provide a statistical interpretation of thermodynamics systems consisting of a large number of particles. The concept of thermodynamic ensembles such as microcanonical, canonical and grand canonical ensembles will be discussed. The derivation of Maxwell’s-Boltzmann statistics in extended systems is developed. Further, the methods of statistical mechanics are used to develop the statistics for Bose-Einstein and Fermi-Dirac gases.
