Course Description
The course includes four main topics:(1) the importance of science in Islam, fields of science, the relation of Islamic civilization to other civilizations, and the role of translation in transmitting scientific knowledge); (2) Islamic achievements in traditional areas of knowledge and study in Islam (Quranic interpretation, Prophetic tradition, Islamic jurisprudence, Arabic studies); (3) Islamic achievements in natural sciences (medicine, pharmacology, chemistry, physics, botany, zoology, mathematics, astronomy, and geography); (4) Islamic arts: applied arts (porcelain, carpet-making, weaving, and metal works) and architecture (types and advantages); (5) contact areas through which achievements of the Islamic civilization were adopted into the Western and World civilization.
