Course Main Objective
The Main Objective of the Course is to Learn about types and taxonomy of natural hazards and ways to predict; realize methods to avoid and deal with them upon occurring; acquire skills of positive dealing with the natural environment and contribute to solving its problems.
Course Learning Outcomes
- 1. Knowledge and Comprehension
- 1.1 Identify the basic concepts of natural hazards and disasters and their geographic taxonomy, the natural and human reasons of natural hazards and disasters and ways to fight against them.
- 2. Skills
- 2.1 Prove their knowledge of the concepts and theories of physical geography and differentiate between the agent, the process and the resulted phenomenon.
- 2.2 Use traditional and electronic library to complete and submit the assignments.
- 3. Values
- 3.1 Appreciate teamwork principle and bear individual and collective responsibility.
Course Content:
1. Basic concepts of the natural disasters.
2. The geological hazards and disasters (earthquakes- volcanoes)
3. Meteorological and hydro-hazards and disasters (storms-flood torrents- floods- drought).
4. Snow-related hazards.
5. Hazards and the earth's surface (geomorphology) soil erosion and degradation of its properties- desertification- landslides- subsidence).
6. Coast-related hazards.
7. Biological hazards (forest fires- pasture fires- locust hazards and how to fight)
8. Hazards resulted from human acts (technical hazards).
