Course Description
This course study the historical evolution of the Flora of Saudi Arabia, including geographical and environmental divisions within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.Know the importance of natural protected areas and the types of reserves in Saudi Arabia andknow the flora of Saudi Arabia and the vegetation of the Kingdom in a global context. The course includes the study ofsome wild plant examples from different geographical regions of Saudi Arabia.
Knowledge of methods for collecting and drying plant samples. Skills and knowledge from field trips to different areas of Saudi Arabia to study the different environments and habitats.
Practical content:
The course introduces the concepts of flora and vegetation, which include the following topics: a history of flora; care, handling and identification of fresh and dried materials; preparation techniques and conservation of plant samples; the development of and types of herbaria; herbarium construction and the use of personal computer in reconstruction.
Course Objectives & Outcomes
At the end of this course, the student will be able to:
- Identify the principles of plant distribution, geography, vegetation, classification, nomenclature, and identification with an emphasis on Saudi flowering plants.
