Course Description
This course recognizes that working with people in healthcare requires a sound understanding of the key ethical issues that underpin life, death, how we deliver health care and how we conduct research. The course will challenge students to think through their values and apply these in a variety of health care contexts. Students will be taught structured approaches to solving the many ethical dilemmas that arise on a daily basis in health care. Topics include issues relating to malpractice, litigation, consent and refusal of medical treatment, advanced directives, patient confidentiality, and expert witness preparation, among others. Medical ethics from Islamic perspective and some important Islamic ruling on contemporary medical issues are also covered in this course.
