Course Main Objective
To make students acquainted with the science of discourse analysis and its concept, schools, basics, fields and applications between the Arabs and the Westerns and make student acquires analysis skill according to such concepts and basics.
Course Learning Outcomes
- 1. Knowledge and Comprehension
- 1.1 Determine the concepts of discourse analysis, its levels, types, applications, and approaches in the past and at present.
- 1.2 Deduce effect and situations of context on discourse study.
- 2. Skills
- 2.1 Analyze types of discourse according to the knowledges and theories that he studies.
- 2.2 Use communication and information technology and learning resources in collecting literature review and writing reports.
- 3. Values
- 3.1 Assume individual, collective and leading responsibility and abide by moral values upon preparing different assignments.
- 3.2 Observe scientific research ethics and academic integrity as well as values of responsible citizen upon performing his duties.
Course Content
1. An introduction to and about the course and its requirements and to discourse analysis and its concept, origin, development and fields.
2. Types and applications of discourse.
3. An applied study of discourse analysis levels:
First- sound level
Second- morphology level
Third- syntax level within scope of sentence and structure in general
Fourth- lexical level of word
4. Discourse analysis and its relation with text and arguments.
5. The importance of context and situation and their types in discourse analysis and its applications.
6. Discourse analysis approaches and schools between the Arabs and the Westerns.
7. Analysis of selected types of discourse.
