Master of Science in Botany

The postgraduate program in sciences was initiated in 1404 H to supplement the severe shortage of qualified scientist in girls' colleges. One of the pioneer programs in the College of Science is the Master of Science in Botany and Microbiology. The Botany program alumni gained prominent positions in Saudi universities and colleges.

Four branches have been identified which emphasize the dynamic areas of Botany, these are:

1. Plant Ecology
2. Plant Physiology
3. Plant taxonomy and Floral.
4. Plant Genetics

Mission and Vision Philosophy

In the Biology department we strive to prepare a scientifically competent graduates in the biological sciences. Our graduates are equipped with the knowledge and skills that would allow better serve the local, regional, and global community and solve its problem and ensure the sustainable development of its resources. The focus of the biology program on the Arabian Gulf because of its location on the Gulf shorelines. Furthermore, the Arabian is known of its unique terrestrial and marine biodiversity, the wealth of its oil, agricultural resources.

متطلبات التخرج

1. النجاح في كامل المقررات الدراسية (الإجبارية والاختيارية التخصصية ) بما لا يقل عن درجة جيد في أي من هذه المقررات بمعدل تراكمي لا يقل عن جيد جداً (اللائحة الموحدة للجامعات السعودية)
2. اجتياز مناقشة الرسالة للطالبة أمام لجنة تحكيمية مع تنفيذ جميع متطلبات اللجنة من تصحيح وخلافه ان وجد.
3. نشر ورقة بحثية واحدة على الأقل لطالبة الماجستير.

Perspective students shall consult with the Unified Graduate Studies Statutes for Saudi Universities before enrolling in the program. Additional requirements include:

1. Candidate should hold a bachelor degree in Biology or Botany from a Saudi university or an equivalent degree from a university recognized by Ministry of Education.
2. Candidate must pass English test IELTS equivalent of (6) or any English test recognized by Deanship of Postgraduate Studies.
3. Candidate must pass  the departmental admission test.
4. Candidate must pass the University Competency test with a minimum of 80%.

Graduation Requirements

A total of 30 units to be covered in at least:

1. Fifteen units for elective specialized courses (12 units in the first semester and 3 units in the second semester)
2. Nine units for elective courses (all in the second semester)
3. Six units for the thesis (Third and fourth semesters)

Program Structure

Consists of courses and research.

• 30 credit hours (in 2 years) are required for successful graduation.
• 24 credit hours are for course work (span 2 semester)
• 6 credit hours are to be covered in the 3rd and 4th semesters as master’s research project.
