Master in Clinical Psychology

The Master of Science in Clinical Psychology program at Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University is designed to educate and train students to enter a professional career with master’s degree. This program teaches and trains students in the necessary theoretical knowledge and clinical skills needed to become effective members of a mental health team. It provides both theoretical and practical foundations for advanced work in the field of clinical psychology. Students who take this course will also get both comprehensive research experience and a strong grounding in clinical theory. This 50 hour program of study includes a set of core or required taught courses, a completion of approximately 1024 hours of supervised practicum experiences, and a dissertation project.

Students who successfully complete both their taught modules and their research thesis receive a MSc in Clinical Psychology.

• A basic degree in Psychology with a minimum GPA of 3.75 points out of 5 (or 3 out of 4) or equivalents.
• Pass the English test IELTS (5) degree or its equivalent.
• Two years of full-time clinical experience in a hospital, an accredited center or academic institution.

Content and Structure

This program consists of taught courses that run along with practical /clinical courses work, and research components. All clinical training will take place in the outpatient clinics and in-patient settings, under the supervision of consultant clinical psychologists and psychiatrists. The course component comprises the following module:

First Module - (Semester (I)

Introduction to model of human behaviour & psychotherapy, Developmental & child clinical psychology, Psychological assessment and testing  (1), Abnormal psychology & psychopathology, Adult clinical psychology, Cognitive behavioural assessment  & treatment (CBT1).

Second Module (Semester II)

Research methods in clinical psychology; psychological assessment and testing 2 (PRACTICAL); forensic psychology; advanced cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT-2-PRACTICAL); clinical practicum-1.

Third Module - (Semester III)

Clinical health psychology (adult & pediatrics), clinical neuropsychology, theories/ assessment & intervention in substance abuse, professional issues in psychology (ethical & legal), practicum 2.

Fourth Module - (Semester –IV)

CLINICAL INTERNSHIP: (The Equivalent of a 480 practical  hrs,  (8 Hrs. Daily Practice) of Supervised Experience in an Approved Clinical Setting), and research project.
