Lab Description

Students will understand the immune system as a defense mechanism needed to protect the body and the diseases pertaining to abnormalities within this system. Immunology & serology lab sessions offer to students the chance to understand the key components of immune system and their reactions by applying different practical techniques that will correlate between theory and practice.

Aims

  • To expose the students to a wide range of techniques involved in immunology and serology lab demonstrating antigen-antibody interactions.
  • To give the students the opportunity to develop their observation skills, recording and data interpretation skills.

Learning Outcomes

  • Students will learn about different cells and organs that are part of the immune system.
  • Students will be able to work out how to calculate concentrations.

Techniques Applied

  • Serial dilutions
  • Agglutination.
  • Different techniques of ELISA.
  • Immunofluorescence method.
  • Lymphocyte isolation and viable count.

Lab Instruments

  • Light microscope.
  • ELISA washer (ELX50).
