The decision support process is defined as the process of providing the environment, conditions, mechanisms and techniques that serve the industry and make a good and applicable decision. It is a process that relies on modern techniques and quantitative and intelligent methods to support the decision maker in dealing with strategic and operational problems in different sectors of the organization to reach the optimal decision within the group Of appropriate alternatives.

Strategic Goal

The strategic goal of the Decision Support Unit at Dammam University is to build evidence-based knowledge about the real conditions of the beneficiary community in all its categories, both within and outside the university. This knowledge will be analyzed and enriched with fact-based opinions, and then presented to decision-makers in a clear and accessible manner to facilitate appropriate decision-making on submitted matters.

From this strategic goal, several general objectives emerge:

1. Collect accurate and reliable information from trusted original sources.
2. Make information and data available to stakeholders according to their relevance.
3. Analyze information and build evidence-based knowledge.
4. Provide alternative solutions supported by scientific evidence to ease the decision-making process.
5. Educate stakeholders (including policymakers, the public, the business sector, and civil society) about information.
6. Monitor and evaluate the impacts of university policies and service and development programs on individuals and the community.
7. Develop systems and models to support decision-making in educational, research, professional, and developmental issues relevant to the university and the community.
8. Promote knowledge interaction and form partnerships with various entities at local, regional, and international levels to enhance communication and knowledge exchange.
9. Adopt an initiative to standardize data definitions across higher education institutions in the Kingdom.

Objectives

1. Monitor data from academic and administrative entities within the university.
2. Provide technical services and solutions to university units and related entities.
3. Standardize data handling practices across all university departments.
4. Reduce costs associated with IT operations and the reporting team while minimizing errors, conflicts, and unnecessary duplication.
5. Enhance the credibility and integrity of available data.
6. Conduct new types of analyses as needed.
7. Make data accessible and usable for research purposes.
