Course Description
Space Planning and Design is an introductory course that will examine the roles and needs of both the user’s and the client’s as well as the designer’s role in space planning and design through different interior projects. This course provides general criteria for the initial planning and development of the most common interior building types, such as housing, commercial spaces, educational facilities, cultural institutions, etc. More specifically, it provides the necessary information to establish basic interior architectural programs, space allocation and volumes, as well as understand the functional relationships for interior space planning and design components. A special emphasis will be given to the basic elements of interior space and design. This course provides standard design criteria for space planning and function as a starting point for design solutions.
Students will go on site visits to examine a variety of interior spaces in order to learn the process of how to evaluate space planning and design as well as have the opportunity to make a critical analysis using space planning standards.
