Course Description
History and Theory II is an introductory course that teaches the history of architecture and art from the Renaissance to the present time with a special emphasis on interior spaces. The development of art and architecture in the west is studied, analyzed and evaluated within different time frames, beginning with the Renaissance and Baroque periods and then moving into the 18th century Rococo, Neoclassicism and Romanticism periods, followed by the 19th century Revivals, Beaux-Arts, Art Nouveau, Chicago School and Functionalism. The course will conclude with the Modern and Post-Modernism movements of the 20th century. The course will also focus on the structures, geometry, materials, interior elements and accessories of those unique buildings of the past. In addition, this course will examine relevant art as it relates to architecture and interiors.
