Structures are often subjected to dynamic forces (cyclic, earthquake/wind, blast, and explosion) during their lifetime. This course introduces the theory of dynamic response and design of structures with emphasis on earthquake loads. The structural dynamics components of the course include; Concept of dynamic equilibrium, Free and forced vibration response of single and multi-degree of freedom systems, Natural vibration properties of structures; Resonant response, Development of elastic response spectrum. The earthquake components of this course include; Behavior of structures under seismic excitation, Introduction to SBC and ACI earthquake loadings, Structural systems for high-rise buildings, Design and detailing of seismic resistant members and connections, Structural engineering software, computer modelling of high-rise buildings and presentation of results.
