Course Description
The Interior Design Studio VII course focuses on certain rules and regulations that are important to the conservation and preservation of historic structures. This course features a number of visual presentations and site visits to important historical buildings. These visits will allow the students to experience the space first hand and get a better understanding of the historic and current contexts of these traditional historic structures. One of the projects for this class will focus on actual historic buildings. The students will learn about the issues and regulations implemented by local authorities regarding traditional historic structures. They will also learn about adaptive reuse and how this approach can save built heritage sites by giving them a new purpose while at the same time generating income, such as turning a traditional mud brick courtyard home into a heritage inn. The second project for this class will focus on the interior of administrative buildings. The students will use their knowledge in both the technical and theoretical areas in order to create successful design solutions. The topics of identity, scale, continuity and sustainability will be covered in this course and will be the foundation for the success of the students’ projects.
