Course Description
This course presents an introduction to the methods used in concept development for interior spaces as well as focusing on the subject of design procedures by examining a variety of practical and pragmatic studies. Emphasis is placed on the understanding of human factors, i.e., sociocultural, economic, anthropometrical, functional, climatic, behavioral, psychological and basic technical aspects of interior spatial composition and the environment. During the first few weeks, small projects and assignments will be given in order to develop concepts and learn basic interior design elements and principles. A final project (residential) will be assigned that is an actual site, in order for the students to have the opportunity to get the practical experience of working with a client. As part of the course requirements, the students will learn basic programming and be familiar with furnishings, materials, rendering techniques and all of the major elements involved with free hand illustrations. Site visits are essential to understanding the techniques of collecting data and analysis. 3D model making is a critical part of this course, which trains the students so that they can visually comprehend the three planes involved in an interior space.
